I thought this sounded like a good idea. However, it bounces all around when hooked up and driving. It also gets very much in the way of the shifter if your vent is within a 5 inch radius of the shift lever. Trying to get some use out it, I clipped it to the visor overnight. The next day the prong clips were warped into a permanent open position and would not return to their original shape, rendering the device useless (kinda like keeping a comp in your back pocket - it ain't never gonna go back to being straight). Save your hard earned bucks.

This vent mount is relatively simple to put together. It holds the GPS unit well and is easily adjustable. I use it on my TomTom XXL 540S and am very happy with it. Can't ask for more than that - no, that's not true: paying in the teens for a couple pieces of extruded plastic from a chinese factory is probably a bit much. Arkon could do well to reduce the price of this product.

This is just what I was looking for - an inexpensive mounting solution for my TomTom GPS unit. Works well, easy to use, and I can transfer it from car to car with no problems.

ARKON TTEP129-ST-RVC TomTom EasyPort Removable Swivelt Air Vent Mount
I purchased two of these mounts a few weeks ago for my TomTom XL-340 (my car and wife's)
It needs a bit of mechanical nous to put the kit together, and on my car's central airvent it's a tricky fit. However, once it's is on, the setup is quite satisfactory; the GPS unit is positioned right alongside my steering wheel -- and there is no movement even when the car goes over mild bumps. Just be careful not to knock the GPS when reaching for some of the nearby dash controls - the mount can be knocked loose by a hard knock.
Overall, I much prefer this airvent mount to a dash or windshield mount (and it's definitely safer than "jamming the standard mount in the unused ash-tray" that I tried for a while :-).
The cost of the international freight was more than the combined cost of the two units, but it was money well spent.

The Tom Tom comes with the suction mount for the windshield. Tried that but is a real pain to take off when you stop. Don't want to leave the mount attached to the windshield so everyone knows you have a GPS in you car. After a few days I had to find another mount that was out of the way and easy to use. This vent mount is just the thing. I can take the GPS unit off and leave the mount attached to the vent. Can easily re-attach when I'm ready to go. It is just plastic but seems to hold up okay.
