Amazon.com Product Description Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts on a budget, the Garmin eTrex H GPS navigator helps you navigate your way through the toughest terrain. The unit is equipped with a high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver, which locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. The advantage is clear: whether you're traipsing through thick woods or strolling near tall buildings and trees, you can count on the eTrex H to help you find your way when you need it the most. And just like the original eTrex, this little yellow wonder is intuitive and rugged, with a lightweight housing that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. The eTrex H is a breeze to use, with five buttons on either side of the navigator facilitating one-handed operation. The four-level gray LCD display, meanwhile, is easy to read in a shade or daylight. And you needn't fret should the weather turn, as the eTrex H is IPX7 waterproof, so it can withstand an accidental splash or dunk in the water and still continue to perform. Functionally, the navigator stores up to 500 waypoints in its memory for easy retrieval, with names and graphic symbols to highlight the selections. Users will also appreciate Garmin's exclusive TrackBack feature, which lets you reverse your track (up to 20 reversible routes) and navigate back to your starting point. And the automatic track log offers 10 saved tracks (with 10,000 points), along with the ability to retrace your path in both directions. Other details include a hunting and fishing calculator, sun and moon information, and a serial PC interface. The eTrex H, which runs for up to 17 hours on a pair of AA batteries (not included), measures 2.0 by 4.4 by 1.2 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty. What's in the Box eTrex H navigator, wrist strap, quick start guide, user's manual.

Great no-frills handheld GPS for the price. September 5, 2010 I just purchased an Etrex H and brought it home. Unlike another reviewer, mine was able to lock onto the satellites in less than five minutes (I was indoors, too). I've tested it out some, and it performed well. It doesn't have maps, color graphics, or any of those features. But I recommend it for anyone who just wants an inexpensive, basic GPS. One detail: the buttons are a bit hard to push, but that's probably a good thing if you're hiking along with the unit in your pocket. No accidental button-pushing to screw up your trip! The unit is small and rugged.
I agree with other reviewers: the manual is pretty poor. It lacks any type of introduction or explanation to GPS, how it works, the vocabulary, etc. Also, the lack of an interface cord is a problem if you need to hook it up to a computer.
In sum, definitely a good, basic unit for the price.
Horrible customer service September 2, 2010 I bought the watch as a gift and cannot review or rate it. This is a review for Garmin's Customer Service, which was very inferior. I waited for a representative for exactly 45 minutes and 24 seconds (as per my telephone's digital display). Once she got on the phone with me, she was curt and short and totally useless. She did not resolve my issue and actually told me to call another number!
I hope the watch was worth this ordeal.
It's ok. August 18, 2010 It only took seconds to pick up satellites - lordie lordie a whole bunch hovers over my remote location - but the closest accuracy it could get is 10 feet. I recon with that many satellites hovering over me I should have inches in accuracy. Anyway, I haven't used it long so more comments to follow.
Great for the price! July 29, 2010 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have been GPS shopping for a loooong time! I am only 15 so my mom told me I shouldn't spend too much on a GPS, for I would only be using it for geocaching.... Let me just say this is a GREAT starting unit! It took a while to get used to the controls and all but after a few minutes, my GPS and I are now acquainted. If you are looking for a GPS with maps and navigation, this is NOT for you. This is for people that simply want to go somewhere and get back. It is great for getting you back to your car! The only problem is the battery life because it is drained by the backlight which is ALWAYS needed to be able to see.
Good basic GPS July 18, 2010 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For finding your position in the outdoors this unit works very well. It is small and light so you can carry it climbing and backpacking without a problem. The accuracy is good and the unit easy to learn. It does not come with a cable to connect to a computer or very good information of what programs it will work with.
