GPS dash board mount. September 3, 2010 I like the looks of the dash mount and the way it stays on the dash but I am having problem with the GPS coming loose from the mount and falling in the floor and then I lose the information on where I am going and have to pull over and reset it. I don't know if there is anything I can do to stop this from happening but it is frustrating when you are in traffic and lose everything.
Dash Mount September 3, 2010 Received promptly, in good shape, works as advertised. I believe it could have a slightly smaller footprint, but I'm happy with it.
Good Product. August 22, 2010 The design is great in that it will accomodate any brand of GPS. I've been using it for several weeks and it works great.
Excellent product August 22, 2010 This mount does just what it's intended to, and for a fair amount less than ones sold by GPS makers. Between theft, laws regarding windshield obstruction, and even proper visibility for a driver, mounting a GPS on your window seems less and less ideal, so this looked to be a proper alternative, and the results are both impressive and satisfying.
The plastic hook that you're supposed to stick to your dash to anchor the mount isn't even necessary, as the no-stick grip on the underside is more than capable of holding it in place, as a few hard turns can attest to. This mount was used in a car that had consecutive rounded shapes on the front of the dash where the fan vents were, meaning it wasn't resting on a completely flat surface, and it still held true. That being said, depending on your dashboard shape and such, it certainly wouldn't hurt to attach the plastic hook anyway.
It also has a good amount of weight on it, which only makes the underside that much more stable. For clarity's sake, this particular mount is not a beanbag style with sand or similar material. While I'm unsure of the material used, it's hard and completely solid.
As was mentioned in another review, it blocks very little of your view, and is easy to finagle with when searching for directions. The best part of all is how quick setup/removal is using something like this - you simply put it on the dash for use, and pick it up when you're done. It can't get any easier than that.
As for plugs causing issues once its mounted, it all depends on the model GPS you have, I suppose. A TomTom XL 330-S 4.3-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Box Packaging), which has a port for the cord on the bottom of the GPS, has been used with this for about 6 months now without an issue, and is able to flex at any angle needed.
All in all, not only do I recommend dashboard GPS mounts as whole, but I also suggest this one, as it does the job well and will save you a few bucks in the process.
Doesn't stay stuck!!! August 20, 2010 Three times my Magellan Roadmate GPS suction cup came loose frome the CM012 base and wound up on the floor of the car. On examination, the shiny surface of the CM012 appeared to be etched under the suction cup area. This etching was rough and would not allow the suction cup to stay stuck to the surface. Soooooo! I removed the suction cup and mechanism, epoxied a piece of wood to the underside of the mount where the suction cup was originally mounted. I ran a wood screw up thru the bottom of the CM012 into the wood installed in the GPS mount. It will never come off again.
Another negative, mentioned by other reviewers,is that the dash mount is too ridged and doesn't work well with a curved dash.
I do not recommend this product!
